Benefactors of my Chili’s friends and family discount: we did it. Tuesday night was the most consequential vote of our lifetimes. We made our voices heard! Regardless of the particular reason that motivated you this election to vote blue, or to sit this one out, now that we’re here let me tell you about the Ohio Republican Party’s plan to undercut our mandate before it even goes into effect.
Ohio’s government is structured like our federal government. There is an executive branch, legislative branch, and a judicial branch. This Tuesday, we flipped most of the executive branch and destroyed the Republican super majority in our statehouse.
This is a huge step to restoring balanced government to Ohio, but it’s only the beginning of the fight. Republicans still hold their super majority in the House until January 1st, 2027.
Jamie Callender (R-57) introduced HB1024 on October 13, 2026. HB1024 would move control of the Common Sense Initiative Office (CSIO) to the legislature. The CISO is Ohio’s regulatory oversight office. It reviews proposed regulations for unnecessary burdens on businesses. Currently, the office is staffed and administered by the executive branch. Callender’s bill would move control of the CSIO to the Republican legislature.
What you and I define as unnecessary is arbitrary. It is a vague word for describing a problem because of how flexible the oversight on regulation needs to be. What you and I consider unnecessary is not what the Republican legislature of Ohio deems unnecessary. Trying to strip away powers from the incoming Democratic governor because Ohio Republicans are sore losers is.
What Can You Do?
Right now, you can keep celebrating. Regardless of if this bill and other’s like it pass we grabbed the rudder of our country and our state and took back control. It is a great week to be an American.
Let me know what kind of changes you’d like to see come to Ohio and please send me your best election memes. Thank you!
